Zinc-plate rotors
What are the pros & cons of zinc-platting new rotors, Have new set of AC Delco drilled/slotted rotors, and concerned about dampness causing rust.
It has also been suggested that Zinc Platting can warp new rotors due to 800 degres of dipping process, and plugging up drill holes.
Any info on zinc platting would be appriecated, do not want to damage rotors before they get on car ( 1999 C5)

As long as the rotor "hats" are painted, any rust that forms on machined braking surface will wear off the next time you apply the brakes.
I would just put a good coat of high temperature paint on the rotor hats, and install them on the car without zinc plating them.

It wears off in about 15 - 20 miles. So only part that can rust is pad contact area. So every time you brake it is cleaned. If that is not what your looking for I have seen plating that does not come off ( maybe copper) but its more for show I think.

The zinc plating works fine. It makes a much cleaner look than some of you would think. Every bit of the rotor not touched by the pad stays bright and shiny. The outside edge of the rotor is noticable and the drilled and slotted areas do not rust out. I like mine alot. The plating is not meant for the surface area anyway, just everywhere else that shows (and even doesnt show). Its nice taking off a rotor that has no rust or build up on the back sides or anything.
