Default Changing Valve Springs without Valve Seals?

Has anyone done this? I have just under 8k miles on my 02z and am going to change the springs out to 1218s, purely for preventative maintenance...since it has such low miles I was wondering how necessary it was to do the seals as well?

And super easy to replace too. Just go really easy sliding them over the valves; use a sleeve if you can. I used a 12mm 1/4" drive deep socket to press into place.

You've got the springs off, "just for maintenance", and it takes just another 4-5 minutes per cylinder, so why not? As "Lone Star" said, just make sure to use a protective sleeve, when sliding the new seals past the grooves in the valves. Most seal kits have one of these sleeves as part of the package.

Thanks guys! Can anyone recommend a kit to go with the 1218s? Im probably going to order off SDPARTS.com and I found the GM Kits for LS1's (I believe they will fit the LS6, correct me if Im wrong!)...

GM LS1 Valve Stem Seal Kit, 8 Intake (https://sdparts.com/details/gm-facto...parts/12533586)
GM LS1 Valve Stem Seal Kit, 8 Exhaust (https://sdparts.com/details/gm-facto...parts/12457652)

All these with the 1218s should be everything for the job, correct? (except for the spring compressor and compression tester which I have a friend loaning me)

EDIT: Im reading LS1 valve seals wont work on the LS6 or am I misinformed...

Great time to do the seals! The are cheap and easy. You may kick yourself later if you develop leaky guides.

Call Brian at Brian Tooley Racing. He seems to know a lot about this stuff and can answer all your questions and ship you what you need. He was a big help when I broke a valve spring.

BTR has a whole kit, springs, seals, seats, retainers and locks. Price not bad either. My old steel retainer weighed 19grams, the new titanium: 8 grams
