But redline makes a MTF fluid i saw it at my buddies shop yesterday so why would you use a automatic fluid in a manual? Just wondering no flames here!

Because the owner's manual says so. Newer MT's are using ATF instead of gear oil - probably for mileage reasons but there may be others. Putting gear oil in would surely invalidate your warranty. Don't know if it would really break anything. Anyway, use synthetic ATF. Mobil1 ATF works for me.

The friction material on the syncros and no doubt Mileage/efficency are the main reasons for the use of ATF.

I would use Amsoil's ATF product. I use Amsoil fluids in all my vehicles; oil, transmission, and gear lube. Check out the preferred membership. For $10 you get a six month membership and you'll receive approx 15% discount on these products.

Mine called for: MM6 (6-SPD) GLS All TEMPS TA1
TA1: GM recommends P/N 88861800 (Canada 88861801) or equivalent for manual transmission, transfer case applications.
That crosses to Dextron III (Non-synthetic)
<cut & past from GM TSB>
If fluid part number 88861800 U.S. (88861801 Canada) is unavailable when servicing a manual
transmission or transfer case, Dexron III can be used in it's place. DO NOT use Dexron VI in place of
the manual transmission fluid in any manual transmissions or transfer cases as a failure may result.

You can NOT beat AMSOIL Torque Drive ATF. Best stuff I have used so far!
I KNOW it works! IT WORKS VERY WELL! Its compatable with early and late C5 MN6 Transmissions and C6!!

I went to advance auto and tried to find Dextron III with H requirement. No longer available. It's replaced by Dextron VI synthetic. States right on the label "replaces dextron III with H requirement. I changed it and seems to be smoother. Let me know if this is not recommended. I know the C5 manual in some years had paper bushing and synthetic was not recommended. Thanks in advance.

For all GM Transmission specs - Dexron VI states all previous GM specs are obsolete. Meaning if your owner's manual calls for a Dexron III or IV, you use Dexron VI.
AMSOIL's ATL is the recommendation for these specifications. (ATF Signature Series Fuel-Efficient)
The Torque Drive Transmission Fluid was formulated Allison products, and covers the TES289 and TES389 specifications.

The rep has said he will be at Carlisle again this year and will have ATF on-hand - I'll be bringing some home with me...

An EMPTY new MN6/MN12 manual trans takes 4 qts of ATF. If you drain and fill yours, you will use 3.75/ish qts!
I also use the AMSOIL Products and am very happy. AMSOIL just changed some of their product lines and now recommend that signature series ATF. TRUST ME,,, The Troque Drive ATF worked and worked very well! Even in the Early MN6 trans!
Recommend you change out the diff 75/90 at the same time. Get the GL-5 stuff that has the limited slip additive in it.

Just recently drained the Amsoil torque-drive and filled with the new signature ATF. The new fill actually seems a bit better; although the torque-drive was very good.
