Here is where I am at with this. Since I bought my 99 it will only sometimes crank and not fire. All i do is back off the key and hit it again an fires right up.
Sometimes it starts fine. Car seems to run fine, no codes.
I just changed the cam sensor which had no effect on this condition. Would my next item to change be the crank sensor?? any ideas thankyou.
I think you have to drop the starter to get with the crank sensor?
I wuld suspect more like a bad relay or ignition switch. Corroded contacts on the run circuit sometimes not making a good contact. Also check the ground points and connectors. Sounds more like a weak connection of some kind.

Install fuel pressure gauge, turn key on (no start). See if pressure holds or drops off quickly.

I had the same problem, especially when cold. First thing in the AM, mine was getting to be a pita to start. Had to throttle up pretty good to get it to fire. Ran a can of Techron through the tank and hasn't done it since. Might not be your trouble, but it's a cheap thing to try.
I pulled these codes: B2527, U1096, U1064, U1016. Should I reset these codes? The car runs fine when it starts. How could I have no communication with 3 different systems?

Attach it at the Schrader valve on the front of the fuel rail for testing purposes. You can buy, borrow or rent at some AP stores. It MUST be capable of reading fuel pressure on fuel injected vehicles and not a low pressure version used for carbureted vehicles.
This is a typical one and it reads 0 to 100 psi:
Pressure should be 58 psi (~). It should hold for quite awhile and not bleed back down quickly. If it does, there's a problem.
After I did some real trials to find the problem. This is what I discovered. I was wrong about the crank and no fire. It sometimes fires right up but sometimes it cranks for 3-4 seconds then fires up. I really have to hold the key and wait for it to crank and fire, but it never "doesnt fire" it will always start.
I am gonna clean the contacts in the ignition like bill curlee talks about.
I finally got around to getting a fuel pressure gauge. So what happens is I turn the key to ON and i hear the fuel pump. As its buzzing its at 60psi, then it drops right down to under 20psi.
Also when I put the gauge on before i fired the pump up there was no pressure at all. even if it sat for 2 days i would imagine there would be a little bit of pressure left.
So I believe its a check valve but not sure if its the return line or feed line.
I know it's old thread but i fixed the issue finally. I replaced rear fuel feed pipe GM part 10448899 . It's a bitch to do but it was so worth it. Car fires instantly now. Fuel pressure holds steady on fuel pump prime. Thanks to lonestarFRC.

Good to hear your issue is resolved, and thanks for posting a followup. Sadly, that part is no longer available new from GM.
