Default question on foam blocks when installing intake manifold

i assume these are for the ends. anyone figure out what's more effective, sticky side to the block or to the manifold? car didn't have any when i pulled the manifold to do the oil pressure sending unit but this new fel pro set does

edit. answered my own question, stuck to the bottom of the intake manifold lol. suppose looking would be quicker than posting next time

I know if you had factory ones, the GM procedure was to remove the rear one to avoid water intrusion to the knock sensor hole. Seeing as the GM procedure hasn't been done on yours, FWIW.

removing the rear foam to avoid water? wouldn't the foam be a water blocker?

i wound up peeling off what appeared to be the oem foam and sticking on the fel pro blocks. not that it probably made any difference

I think it was more to allow drainage if water got in the valley, so the foam wouldn't hold it in. I had to do the TSB on a LQ4 and the knock sensor was soaked.

I can post the procedure (02-06-04-023A) if you'd like... Removing the foam is step 7.

Step #7 talks about removing the rear foam piece. Yes, it's to allow water to escape from underneath the intake if you wash the engine. I sealed around the whole rubber cover on the knock sensors instead of putting a "dam" around them like the TSB shows. I never wash my engine anyway.

well that just sucks. i had it apart and back together inside a couple hours. if i ever remove it again i'll do the SB. till then i'll just be careful with water around the engine and drive the car after if i ever wash the motor to evaporate any that may have ran down. from what i remember the only place it could really run down would be on the sides where the intake ports are.
