Default Radiator Drain Plug

Hi, Can anyone tell me how you would remove a defective drain plug from my 2002 Vert. Let me start by saying I am not the original owner of the vehicle. Purchased recently I decided to do a coolant change yesterday only to find the drain plug spins free. I attempted to turn it 1/4 turn to the left and it seemed loose. Same to the right although there appears to be some sort of stop but it can be turned beyond that. My better sense told me to leave it be and I did the coolant change by removing the lower hose and had no problem. My thoughts are that I will leave it be but when I do this service next year I will change the thermostat and hoses. At this time I will or should I say would like to be prepared to change the drain plug so for future use I will have that plug for coolant service. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Al

I believe that if you pull on the plug while it's in the "drain" position that the plug will come out.
There is an o ring in there that is basically holding it in there.

Could be that as old as the car is ...the plastic & or/o ring deteriorated.
