Default What head gaskets for 243 head swap on 98 ls1

I know this May have been asked times before but I can't figure out because of conflicting answers.
So I need to know which head gaskets to use on a 98 stock ls1 Vette motor, putting on a set of 2002 243 heads do I use the gaskets for the ls6 or the ls1 ??? Keeping in mind the years of the two different parts.
Thx

The GM MLS gaskets for the LS6 should work for you! I think GM Parts house sells them here for a good price. (forum sponsor)

Contact Gene or Patrick at gmpartshouse.com and get ya a set!

Ive used many an aftermarket set and NONE beat the GM MLS OEM Gaskets...

As mentioned, the 2002+ LS1/LS6 MLS gaskets will be correct. The older LS1 heads have a notch that requires the composite gasket to seal the coolant passage.

I would use a .040 Cometic gasket to bump the CR by .3 if your planning on a camshaft.

Ive read a few times here that to use the cometic the mating surfaces must be perfect. We used it in my build but the shop did the work.

Yup, as stated either GM mls or Cometics. It's all I've used with zero issues.

Cometic and OEM MLS gaskets require a very smooth mating surface. The graphite gaskets are more forgiving of poor surface prep.

You are also going to need the valve covers for the new heads. If I'm not mistaken, 97 and 98 had perimeter bolts and all the later had center bolts. Correct?
