Oil pan almost off...how to check for spun bearings?
I am about 30 minutes from dropping the oil pan, what is the easiest way to check for spun rod and main bearings in an LS1?

I found out what the little gray rubber particles were in the oil filter....They looked like gray solid rock but looking closer they are rubber. I was dumbfounded when I saw this but after dropping the pan and oil pick up tube I found the rubber oring on the pickup tube was cut in half. :nonod: I guess when I assembled the tube and pump the o-ring must have gotten cut or pinched. One problem found, one problem fixed. :yesnod:

Look for a rod cap that looks blue, look for metal sqeezing out of a rod cap. If you dont see anything start removing rod caps and look at the bearings, dont mix them up :)
If you still dont see anything look at the mains.
If you still dont see anything out of the ordinary, look the best you can at the cylinder walls/pistons.
not much else you can do there, make sore and replace the pickup tube o-ring, that can draw some air in..

I just pulled #8,7,6 and the bearings look fine/not spun. There is very light scoring line on #7. Should I use some assembly lube when I put them back together? Could the broken oil pump pick up tube oring cause air to get into the oil system and cause tapping or low oil pressure?

Phil, a busted o-ring for the pick up tube will dramatically decrease your oil pressure. You typically want 10 PSI/1000 RPM. If you're pulling 6500 RPM ranges with low pressure you could starve the motor for oil.

remember i asked could the motor be pulled out with a chain hoist?
and you gave me a wise guy answer WHY DO THAT?
now you know why i asked  :D

So is the motor still in the car? Does the pan just drop off without hitting the crossmember? Maybe this would be a good time to replace the rod bolts....is that possible at this moment? If it is, I'd do it. They are infamous for stretching/breaking at high rpms like a heads/cam car might see.
The oring missing will kill your oil pressure, and maybe a chunk of rubber is what killed your lifter.
