When I lock the car with the fob the reverse lights blink a couple of times, but when I use it to open the doors, sometimes the reverse lights stay on for about 15-20 seconds and other times it does not light at all. Is this normal or is there something that needs to be replaced. Thanks
I don't think everyone is reading your question correctly. The back up light switch has nothing to do with flashing when you use the fob. The backup light puts 12v on the reverse lamps when the ignition is on and the car is in reverse. The approach lights voltage comes from an entirely different source. If you lock the doors with the fob and you have lights enabled in the DIC, they will flash. If you unlock the doors in the dark, the backup (approach) lights will come on and stay a while to allow you to get to the car with some light. Sounds to me like you're looking for a problem that doesn't exist.
Here's what the owner's manual says about arming the approach lights:
0 APPROACH LIGHTS ON
APPROACH LIGHTS OFF
If you choose APPROACH LIGHTS ON, the fog lamps,
front turn signal, rear back-up and courtesy lamps
will come on for 30 seconds when you press UNLOCK
on the remote keyless entry transmitter. This will
occur only when it is dark outside.

I appreciate that. I should have read the manual. I noticed the reverse lights will not illuminate when I unlock the car using the fob during daylight. It did not occur to me that there was a light sensor in the approach light function.
Agree with 8vette7 - check the fuses and relays first.
Mine were acting strange like that...I replaced the switch on the trans first.
15$ part, 30 minutes to change out.
Didn't fix it.
