ATTENTION: C5 F45 Suspension Owners!! COMING SOON! C5 F45 SUSPENSION SIMULATOR!
Dear Corvetteforum.com Members,
We wanted to inform all of you that have C5s with F45 suspensions that replacing an F45 shock is very expensive. GM lists each F45 shock at: $585.00 each and if you have to replace a pair at a time or all four, that will set you back a lot of money!
We will be carrying a new product for your F45 suspension due out within the next month or so.
It is called the C5 F45 Suspension Simulator and it does exactly what 02 Simulators and CAGS Eliminators do. It fools the BCM (Body Control Module) and PCM into thinking that the GM F45 shocks are installed instead of throwing codes and causing the car to limp into power reduction mode. The C5 is a very smart car and realizes when the F45 shocks are not connected. In case you want to install a better quality shock like Bilsteins, Konis, HALs, etc. you could really never do that without having to convince your GM dealer to disconnect the F45 system for you. Most of the time, they probably will not do it for you.
Now you have a choice with the new C5 F45 Suspension Simulator.
We don't have a price on them and we don't have a definite release date, but the simulators are in testing as we speak and they have performed flawlessly so far.
We will update the forum as soon as we know when they will be in stock and with details on pricing as well.
We just wanted to give you F45 owners a sigh of relief because now you have a choice. You can either pay the big bucks for new F45 shocks when they get worn out or you can install simulators and better aftermarket shocks at a fraction of the price, not to mention better performance and longevity.
What do you guys think? Please post and let us know.
Thanks!
Shawn

Will this totally eliminate any DIC messages?
The sole purpose of this system is to disable F45 to install aftermarket shocks, correct?
I'd consider it if it proves to be reliable.
Thanks, Shawn.

Patches,
Yes, that is correct. It will completely and safely eliminate any and all DIC messages.
This system will allow you to install aftermarket shocks with the added peace of mind.
Thanks!

There are two ways to use normal shocks without any trouble codes and without the 80mph speed limit:
1) Plug one 15 ohm 3+watt resistor into each shock plug. All 4 resistors will be less than $5.
2) Have a GM Tech II remove the F45 option under the BCM menu (go to "reprogram BCM", enter a value for the Z49 option code, and then scroll to the line that says F45). After deleting the F45 option, you must remove (or at least disconnect) the F45 computer in the driver side rear storage compartment.
I used method one for about a week, and then someone offered to buy my F45 computer for $300, so I switched to method 2. The dealership didn't charge anything for using the Tech II, either.

Yea! But what will I do with my ride/select switch?
This does sound interesting. I've held off lowering mine because of
possible attributes to the computer.
...and lowering an F45 car is pain getting the wrench on the nut
because of the wire connector outlet located on the shock.

Thanks to those before us (Kevin), we all know about the resistors and how they blow when the selector switch is moved, so what will happen when the switch is moved with the Simulator? Nothing?

Stu in CA,
That is correct. Nothing will happen at all if the switch is moved from one position to another. The F45 Simulator will render the switch dead as well as the DIC from throwing any codes.

This is really awesome Shawn, I came up with my fix and shared it with many forum members over the last 2 years. I never blew any resistors because I always left it in performance...but it was my understanding that they would blow if the selector was moved. I used a heavy duty 25W 15ohm resistor in the end the cost was $4.00 for a pack of 20 resistors. But this is truly what the F45 community has needed for sometime and for those not comfortable climbing under there car and putting in the homemade resistors, this is the obvious choice. A true plug and play device. My only regret is that I did not market it and sell it...but I expected some company to do it and they finally did...its about time.
Once again I think this is an awesome device and a long time coming. The 96 FX suspension had an aftermarket chip you could change in a separate computer to deal with the issue...with the C5 that option was lost...so it is really cool that you will be carrying this new device. If I still had the F45 system I would definetly be buying this off you...just because it is a cleaner install then was my little trick.
