Default Z06 Trunk not releasing high enough to get my fingers under it to open it. How fix?

I just replaced the trunk lift struts on my 01 Z06. Before it wouldn't pop up at all after pulling the trunk release. I went to Oreillys and got some replacement struts. The trunk opens more easily and stays up but is still wont pop up enough to let me get my fingers under it to lift it up.

I have noticed that with the new struts installed, If I cycle the trunk lid open and closed a few times, then try the trunk release it will pop the trunk lid up the first inch like its suppose to. But if the trunk has been closed for more then about 10 minutes the it reverts back to not opening the first inch.

Is there a way to fix this? Did I get faulty struts? Does the latch release play a role in pushing the trunk open the first inch or are the struts doing all the work?

Do a search as this is a common question...
The non-fix fix is popping the trunk then closing a door (with both windows up).
A fix is lubing up all joints.
Another is buying a little spring from one of the vendors here.
I do the first.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still trying to master the advanced search page. It's given me some... Odd results. I did lube up the joints and the "Door pop" method works for me. It is something I would like to actually fix, so the spring doesn't sound like a bad idea. Do you know which vendor sells it?

It's literally just a spring and a rubber stopper. Take a trip to home depot and make your own for ~$2.

My 98 vert did the same thing replaced struts helped a little, lubed the joint helped a little more. I found a post on the Forum about adjusting the rubber bumpers out ( make a little longer) at each corner of the deck lid. This did the trick now works just fine. Give it a try.

I never use the site search for topics since it sucks. I always use an internet search and you will get this forum and other hits much easier.

of using one of the old rear springs and rubber pad from my Grand Marquis as a fix. That should pop the trunk lid. Whatcha think, Sam?

Since I keep "stuff", I found a spring in my "spring drawer", resized one end so it would fit under a screw head, modified an old distributor wire boot to fit at the other end, loosened one of the latch mounting screws, put the resized end under the screw, tightened it and that was the end of the problem. FREE.

Easiest way is what first poster said, pop trunk with driver's door open and window closed then shut driver's door. Trunk pops open further.

When I had this problem all I did was screw the rubber stoppers out a turn. Counter clockwise.

Or go to Home Depot and buy a small spring and washer...
P.S. Where in Canada are you?

The Home Depot fix is as easy as the "kit".
