Default Low oil warning issue..but there isn't.

Yesterday morning I had a low oil warning light go off on my 99 C5 coupe, I checked my levels & put in half a quart & & was still showing low. I went to stock up on oil at my local Pep Boys, checked my level & pul a quart in. Went on my way got about 10 miles from the house, thought all way well & good, then got the low oil warning AGAIN. Pulled over & checked the level, put in a half & turned around & went back to the house, I didn't want to take chances. The exhaust wasn't wet & wasn't blowing any smoke. Made it back just when getting into the driveway warning went off again. At this point I was running late, changed vehicles & went on my way would look into this later when it was cooler.

I checked my levels this morning & I'm overfilled, the oil is getting trapped somewhere. I hope this isn't critical I can't afford a new engine right now.

I would suggest checking the low oil level sensor on the rear of the oil pan, that or the connection to it. You can't just keep adding oil to the engine or more problems will occur.

you need to drain some of the oil out to make it the correct level with the dipstick or just change the oil and refill to correct level...

The odd thing is, I checked the dipstick levels & it was showing extremely low. Is it getting trapped somewhere?

How did you check it... running...hot... cold... did you kill it and let it set a while before checking? I don't think there is anyway the oil would be getting trapped and not returning to the oil pan... POSSIBLE you couldn't see where the level was... some have a hard time with that...

That is extremely overfilled, you got to drain it. Could just be the low oil sensor needs to be replaced.

Pushed it out of the garage, now on a flatbed to the shop. I'll find out more later, as of now my nerves are on edge.

I didn't wait long enough for the oil to go back down into the pan, I was in a hurry & assumed I was losing oil somewhere. Yeah, I can admit I screwed up.

Probably just the oil sending unit, I've had mine replaced.

I'm also in FW, let me know if you need any help.

Quality Motorsports does not sound like a dealership... more like a specialty shop... GLAD you got it fixed and thanks for posting your outcome
