04 Z overheats in stop n go traffic
It's got a 600hp LS3 based 416 with a Dewitt's radiator and stock oem dual fans.
It happened when in Phx in 102 degree heat in stop n go traffic with the AC on.
DIC showed 238 coolant temps and an overheating msg so I shut off the AC and rolled the windows down. Once we got moving temps went right down.
I had it out in the garage today after doing a few other things including adding some water wetter and fired it up and let it sit. With the AC on the fans kicked in, though I'm not sure how to check if fans go on high. I turned off the AC and let it idle for 15 minutes.
I'm at 6800' elevation and today it was only 78 degrees, so after idling for 15 minutes it stayed right at 194 degrees, so it appears the cooling system per se doesn't have an issue, maybe just hp vs idling in hot weather?
I've never had it get that warm when road racing even when oil temps were over 300 degrees. Wondering if it was just an anomaly or it needs a fan upgrade? Ideas?

do you have access to hp tuners?... if so you can force the fans on low and high speeds to make sure they are operating and I'm also curious what temps your fans are programmed to come on

I think I'm going to go down to Phx next wk and after my Dr appt slip over to my former tuner and have him check it out. I think he's already programmed the fans to come on sooner, but I want to check and see for sure if they come on to high speed.

I had the same problem a couple of months back. My driver side fan was not working. It turned out to be one of the 3 fan relays. IIRC, the fan relays are 43, 44, 45.
$13 fix...
Thanks to 8vette7 for his help on all things electrical. (I hope I got the screen name correct"

Good questions. I have cleaned the radiator recently though it wasn't that dirty. On the other hand there is not a nice tight fit on the fans to the radiator in a couple of spots which I think is due to the Dewitt's with the eoc setup.
One of the reasons I'm considering the fan upgrade made for this particular radiator.
