Well, it is finally time to replace the Goodyears and I am leaning towards getting the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Zero Pressure tires. Anyone know of the best place to get these tires? The place where I get my Vette serviced quoted me $1,460 mounted and balanced. Is this a fair price? I wanted to make sure I do not overpay. Thanks in advance.

I buy from tirerack.com. Their prices and variety always seem to be better than discounttire.com, which doesn't even have the zero pressure Michelins.

I got those tires from TireRack last month. With 2-day shipping, they were $1306. It cost me another $131 to get them mounted and balanced. That's $1437, so I'd think $1460 is definitely a fair price -- if it includes sales tax and there are no hidden charges.

You also need to be sure the people doing the mounting will accept responsibility for damage to the wheels and to the tire pressure sensors. One damaged wheel or sensor drastically changes the price.

There is also special equipment needed to mount runflats properly. The machine has nylon(?) components for the parts that might scratch your wheels, and have an extra arm for mounting.

I had a local guy who would have gotten the tires and mounted them for $1500, but he wasn't willing to take responsibility for the wheels or sensors. It was worth the extra work for me to find an installer who would take responsibility for damage and get the tires shipped to him from TireRack.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I will just have my service shop handle everything. This way I do not have to order the tires from TireRack.
Also, the $1,460 quote I got includes everything (tires, mounting and balancing the tires on the car, and sales tax).
