Default Mass Airflow Sensor (MAF) - How to clean video

I do this every couple of years as a maintenance item and thought I would do a quick video how to. Easy as pie

Thank you for the vid. I've been sitting on a can with the intent to do this myself. I think I could have figured it out, but I feel much more confident than I did.

And by the way, never remove the screens - they are there for a very good reason, 1. to even out the flow and to protect the sensitive MAF wires.

Thanks for the great Vid. I do mine with every oil change. Having it apart I also do the throttle body, and clean out the Ducts too.

I do not have a screen in mine, 03 Z06, but I believe the Z06's all came without screens...

Your video may cause Z06 owners (whose cars came with no screen) to freak out.
Otherwise informative vid.

I was reading a thread on here earlier from a pretty long time ago where a guy had his 04' Z at the dealer for something and they told him that his maf had been descreened. They said that he needed to have it fixed or it could cause serious damage lol. Apparently they ordered a new one just to find out they didn't come with a screen. The dealership's "corvette specialist" had no idea the 02-04 Z06 didn't come without a screen. Haha

This is why this forum is awesome. I learned something new and super informative. I just bought an 02 Z and would have freaked out when there was no screen in my MAF, I never knew they came without a screen.

Thanks for the clarification. Some Z06 models do not have a screen, others do. Leave yours the way it came is the best approach. Spring is near, clean that MAF!

When the LS6 came out, GM engineers discussed the removal of the screen. They stated the MAF is used on multiple vehicle platforms, and the screen was required to straighten the airflow on those vehicles where the air filter is offset relative to the intake manifold as on some trucks. They evaluated removing it during the design of the LS6 to wring out every bit of HP, and found it was not needed on the Vette since there is a straight shot of airflow from the air filter into the intake manifold.

B/T/W Also good to do if you have an aftermarket air cleaner that requires oil. It is known that sometimes a little oil can contaminate the sensor wire causing an inaccurate reading.
