Default Oil and air filter utopia

Any questions about oil and air filters have been answered by a web site called gm truck central http://www.gmtruckcentral.com according to their research Fram Xtended Guard XGS is one of the best. I assume everyone is using synthetic oil....Right?

And it also shows the worst filters.

Good reading and photos of proof.

Used my first Fram oil filter Xtended Guard last month. It cost more then the A/C's but the turning surface (the part that goes in your hand) is excellent...hope the filter is as good.

Grades based off general A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, F scale
A being the highest grade and F being the lowest.
Better filteration earns a higher grade, better construction earns a higher grade
lower prices earn a higher grade, higher surface area and volume earns a higher grade.
Final grade is calculated the same as a GPA based on the 4 point system
The higher the final grade, generally means a better overall filter.
Catagories are weighted by importance, calculated weights are listed in column heading
Filteration and build quality are somewhat objective so you can make your own judgments

How are they testing the filtering capability? Requires a full test lab set up to be of any value. BTW, for those that don't know, NAPA Gold=Wix - they even use the same numbering system.

It look official to me, heated oil, Base line, weighed out oil dirt, Identical procedure, Different results etc.

Check it out. it's not BS.

Not to mention the fact, that there are several filter brands on that list that are not being manufactured by the company whose name is on the label. Royal Purple, STP, Mobil, Amsoil and Shell are but just a couple examples. Champion Laboratories in Illinois manufactures a great many aftermarket (private label) filters, including several on that list. They may each have their own specified/individual componentry, but they are still manufactured by Champ.

So everyone using a K&N or other foam air filter is letting tons of dirt into engine?

I see a lot of these going on the for sale forum soon.

I think so. If you hold a new K&N air filter up to the sun you can see daylight holes through the mesh. (This doesn't give you permission to stare at the sun)

EDIT.......BTW, that information, as published on the GMtruckcentral site is 6 years old. Things may have changed, since it's original publication.

I think a true test would be to pull oil sample or look at thottle body and see how dirty it is.
