I would never put anything but an AC Delco in that car, I bought mine from Rockauto, I heard nothing but bad things about the others.

If it were mine, id get this off asap. The fuel filter is one of many components on our cars you cannot go cheap on. Either Wix or AC Delco.

my 99 has the regulator, think I paid about $60.00 for it.

more important than noise is that it supplies the correct fuel pressure (which was an issue with aftermarkets)

ps
fuel pump is not uncommon to be noisy

have a great weekend!

Yes ,
Just ordered Ac delco for about $60 . My pump never made noise only on start up ..
After I did FF instal when to get fuel and was data logging with HP tuners been tweaking my tune for days and my VE table was pulling lots of fuel out and yesterday before FF change was fine and stop on .
I bet the Fuel pressure being off was changing tune ..very interesting ..

Just and update ,
Just installed New AC delco filter fuel pump wine / noise gone back to normal ..
Old filter was so clogged could hardly blow through it .. Fuel pressure @ Fuel rail went from 42lbs to 46lbs . car seems to run so much better much smoother and responsive ?

97-98 had a return style fuel system with a regulator up front at the rails and 99-mid 03 have a returnless system with the regulator in the filter... that's why the filters are so much cheaper on the 97-98

I had an engineering friend tear apart several fuel filters and he said he observed several quality differences between units. According to him the AC/Wix/NAPA Gold all looked the same and superior to the others in the diameter of the coil and several other internal parts.
