Default Question: installing a manual C6 shifter in a C5

I've already ordered the shifter from Cultrag but I understand the old shifter boot will not fit. Has anyone done this conversion or know someone who has and how did you solve the boot issue?
Thanks

that's all I did I slit open the top part where the glue was at. Slid it over and used a wire tie to hold it in place. Screw in handle first then use the wire tie.

I did the same thing but used a zip tie. It looks pretty good.

Is that it? Is it as simple as buying a C6 boot? Is the base attachment the same as the C5? If it’s just a simple bolt in, that sounds better than modifying the old C5 boot. Especially if I change my mind and want to go back to the C5 shifter.

Vin, thats my concern also with the c6 boot. Is the bottom still held in place by that plastic “ring”?

What I did was to snip the top of the boot to the size of the bottom of the C6 ****, then flip the boot inside out. The bottom of the **** was stuck into the boot, so that the tip of the boot matched the (bottom) tip of the ****. I put a rubber O-ring around the boot, in the groove in the ****. I guess a wire tie or narrow zip tie would work too. Then I bolted the **** in place and flipped the boot down into the hole in the console.

Seems like a very easy solution

I installed a C6 shifter into my '04 and did not have to modify the boot in anyway; slid right over the C6 shifter and stays there.

Your results may vary.

Used a thin ziptie, looks factory.

My issue with the ziptie is the little "****" at the end. I know it would bug me if I ran my fingers around the bottom of the ****. But maybe that's just my OCD.

Here my RSD shifter which is basically a modified c6z shifter.. I turned the boot inside out and zip tied it to make it shorter.

From my experience you won’t feel it. Especially if you use a thin zip tie.

How do you like your RSD shifter?

I really like the RSD shifter. It’s the perfect height, short throw and fast. Sometimes a little tough to put into 1st from a stop, but that’s more tranny related.

Non issue. You don’t even know it’s there. It’s on the inside of the boot, you can’t see or feel it.
