Different Column Lock Message Issue - Not in Sticky
2000 M6
Put key in ignition and start the car. Display shows "Service Column Lock", but, the column is not locked. However, as soon ater I engage to clutch to back out of the garage the car stalls.
Is this the typical column lock issue or some variation? Not like what is described in the Sticky,
It is the exact steering column lock issue that always happens. If the GM recall was done to your car then the steering column will not lock. What you are now experiencing is the 2mph fuel cut off that GM added as part of the recall. You need to get a LMC5 module and install it to correct the problem. Any chance you battery went low or dead recently? That often causes the steering column lock issue to return a cause what you are describing.

Help!
Yup, this is the issue. Looks like someone already installed the replacement lock plate so the mechanical part is not the problem any more. You are facing an electrical low voltage problem. When the computer sees less than 10.5 volts, it sets the column lock code and shuts off fuel. If your battery is more than 2 years old, I would replace it first, then if that doesn't clear the code, I would install the column lock bypass kit. You could install it anyway and never worry over it again when voltage gets low. Totally based on whether the new battery clears the codes. Keep us posted.
2000 automatic W/27k on the clock. Got the dreaded message last week, read this thread, ordered the module and waiting for it to arrive.
My vehicle paperwork shows the original recall was done in 2005, and my steering wheel does turn - but car stalls at 1.5.
with a recall having been done 15 years ago, is there anything special I need to know about before monkeying with the new bypass module, or any tips from those of you who have done it?
+1 for the battery voltage. Now that it's getting colder in NY and not driving the car every day the "pull key..." message shows up in the mornings. I have an older CL bypass and the 2mph fuel cut tuned out, but never got the message during the hot summer. I was thinking of installing a 12v regulator on the BCM constant V feed to handle the lower cranking voltage dips in these situations. Maybe next season tho..
just a quick question
my 99 C5 hasn't had this problem in the past
it sat for awhile and I charged the battery now it does a coulumb lock error every time I try and start it... if I send my ECU in for upgrade program will this go away completely
it already had the recall and fix it was a daily driver before I got a big german shep that wants to go with me everywhere
FYI....the recall was done on my "new to me" car 15 years ago. I was getting both the pull key error and column lock error so I ordered the LMC5 from Compliance Parts and installed it yesterday. Started it up a bunch of times yesterday and no issues. This morning I start the car and the "pull key" error came up again. AARGH! Guess there's a brown wire to attach for some cars on this part which was not part of the video I watched yesterday when installing it.
