Default Do these tires look too stretched?

I have a set of 18x12 ccw 140’s on my c5z. Went to get new tires today and selected the pilot super sports for their good life/performance. Unfortunately the rears only get as wide as a 295. Discount tire says this tire is good up to a 12” wheel.
To my eyes the tire looks over stretched and won’t perform 100%.

Does it look "stretched"? Yes, a bit. However, consider that the stability of the sidewall greatly effects how well the tires will generate cornering force. For optimum handling, I, personally, think they look "just right". If Discount Tire is indeed correct (the Michelin website should confirm this), then you should be good to go.

(look at it this way....to maximize handling, back in the 70s, the factory installed GR70-15 tires on 8" rims.)

looks like a lot of the import cars nowadays but not as extreme as some, personally I don't like it and would either look for a proper sized tire or another wheel

1. Just went to Tirerack which specifies 10 - 11.5" for two different 295/35/18 Michelin tires.
2. I personally think that looks like dung. I wouldn't keep as is.

OK, but there's a whole world of difference between 70's vehicles with huge sidewall 70 series tires and 35 series tires...

Yeah, I was trying to be semi economical going with a 300 treadwear tire that still had fantastic reviews. Looks like I’ll be returning the super sports for a bfg rival with a “200” (prolly more like 140) treadwear, so I can get a 335 tire back on there again.

If you match the Tread Width spec of the tire to the rim width you won't end up with that. That looks really ricey. Personally it screams to me mis-matched.

Your tires definitely didn't fit your wheels. Both Michelin and the TireRack.com website seem to agree that the 295/35R18 fits a 10" to 11.5" wheel. Your 12" wheel is beyond the maximum safe width for that tire.

Also, pay attention to the "reference wheel width" and how your wheels are wider or narrower than the reference wheel for the tire. Wider wheels require higher air pressures to get optimum tire wear and optimum grip. If in doubt, call or contact the tire manufacturer with your wheel size(s) and vehicle (weight) and get them to give you the correct pressures for the wheels/tires/vehicle combination.

What's the point in having 12" wide wheels if you are only going to put on 295 tires. I wouldn't put that on anything wider than 10.5

I put 305 wide Hankook V12s (with 320 treadrating) on my 19x10.5 rears for 202 a piece. Just keep looking. Discount tire runs a lot of buy 2 tires get a hundred dollars off promos every few weeks. Nittos 555s weren't that much more.

I only tried it since the discount tire rep said 12” was good (I saw the screen, it did list up to 12). Trying to find anything wider than 295 in an 18 wheel seems to only come in a 100ish treadwear rating.

I'm in the same boat with the 18x12 rear rims. My PS2's are at the wear markers and was looking into tires. At Tire Rack site, Rival 2's and Pirelli, were the only options. Probably go with BFG, gonna miss Michelin. My other option is to stretch it out this season on the PS2's. Called Fiske about making my rear rims into 19's, considering that are 3 piece, keep the face, replace the outer and inner rims, no go. If I didn't have the nice rims, I'd get new 18 & 19's, for better tire choice. Luke at the Tire Rack says the Rivals are better anyway. In the rain I asked, he said how often do you drive in the rain, . Oh, and to answer your question, yes.
