Some people (including myself at one time) are afraid to even touch the MAF (Mass Air Flow Sensor). But if your MAF get's dirty over time, it can cause some issues and it is a good idea to clean it.

It is very simple! Takes less than 10 minutes.

Mass air flow cleaner? Is that a special formula or just more marketing? I'm thinking that Throttle body cleaner would do the same?

It's made to be gentle on electronics (the sensor wire) whereas throttle body carb cleaner may not be. That being said, isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle might work just as effectively and is definitely safe.

Thanks for the plug! CRC MAF and TB cleaners are the industry leader.
Used together, you WILL see a difference. Use a bottle of 1-Tank every 3 months as well.

The small sensors inside the MAF sensor are coated to protect them. Using carb/TB cleaner will strip off the protective coating which could cause false readings, so this is why they make a MAF sensor cleaner. Isopropyl alcohol also works, but be very careful if you decide to use q-tips to help clean the sensors.

OK guys, here is the deal... a Maf sensor works by heating those 3 little wires in the housing to a certain temp which causes X- resistance... the air going past the wire, cools them down and causes that resistance to change … the computer picks that up and adjusts the fuel map accordingly.... when cleaning the wires. it is critical to not get anything on the wires or use a cleaner that leaves any residue..... If there is anything left on them... it will cause the wires to burn out.
