Default Cruise control/active handling

My 04 c5 is disengaging the cruise control after, what appears to be a random length of time, anywhere from a few seconds to 30 minutes or more. If you turn off the active handling, the cruise works fine. Then the active handling doesn't turn back on. You have to turn off the car and restart. I also have a message about a bad tire pressure sensor left rear. Are these related? Any information would be appreciated.

Chances are your SWPS (steering wheel positioning sensor) is going out. Pull your codes using the DIC and see if C1287 and/or C1288 come up. Sometimes it takes awhile for the codes to show. Same thing happened on my '04. Changed the SWPS and all has been fine for over seven years now. The part # is 88965543 and cost around $70.

I just got my 03 vert back from the shop about a week ago having the SWPS changed out. It had the exact symptoms that you describe.
I know one thing, a Corvette is hard to drive without a cruise control! Look down and you'll be doing 80 in a 55!
Anyway, the sensor costs about 100 bucks now and they are available. It costs a lot more to have it put in. I paid 400 bucks but two dealers wanted almost 600.
I'm old and fat or I would have tried to do it myself. There's lots of info about doing it online.
It cured the problem!
Good luck!

I just reread your post and the tire sensor part had nothing to do with the SWPS! Something else is going on!
