I will just not be that confident about the LS6 block until I see a picture of an LS1 block in that same area and can tell the difference and know tht mine is NOT like the LS1 picture. For all we know they both look like the picture we are using to ID the motor.
Please someone post an LS1 picture for comparison.

I rember when the anouncement came out that the LS1 would start getting the LS6 block. When the anouncemnet went public there was a VIN cut off. I know for a fact that mine was built before the anounced cut off. I remember noting at the time that the anounced cut off was much later than my VIN and I had had mine home for several weeks before the anouncement, yet I have the same mark everyone is talking about. Build date is in my sig.
If I can find pics of my 99 TA motor I can answer that. Lemme look, but I do not recall that notch at all, and I did the motor twice and the heads 4 times. :smash:
LS-6 block part # is 12561168 for all 2001 and 2002 Z06's
LS-1 block part # is 12560626 or 12559378
You can find these #s on the aft drivers side stamped in the block as far as I can tell all Ls-1s are Z06 blocks or 12561168's a quick look at the corvette Black book can confirm the part #s a second look at your engine will tell you what block is in your car the big thing here is the RPM and PCV system.
