"Once you get the LMC5 I would install it and do the "brown wire mod" described on page 2 of the LMC5 install instructions as optional. Do it anyway or you will be back there again doing it when you start receiving "Pull key and wait..." messages and then perhaps start encountering the 2mph fuel shutoff if you do not do what the message says."

I will go ahead and do it.

If you are comfortable going back in later then don't do i when you install the LMC5. Many of us older guys have trouble enough getting down into the passenger foot well once without having to revisit it a 2nd time.
Exacy! It literally took me an extra 5 mins to do the brown wire mod. He should just do it and be done with it!!!

I waited until 10pm to do the brown wire mod, as it's not as hot in garage.

I'm stuck getting the green wire out with the little tool, the other 3 wires came out easy, something is keeping this one from pulling out.

Also it's a stretch getting my arms and hands in there.

Just keep trying, tried probably a dozen times, and making sure wire is pushed in and seated before took is inserted.

I got it out, just got mad and pulled it out hard with mini needle nose pliers while removal tool inserted.

Tried being nice long enough. Lol

I am also one that has not done the brown wire mod. I had an episode of "service column lock" two months after installing the LMC5. I basically removed the wires and reinstalled everything. Nothing was wrong, but I re-arranged the wiring and tried to do some better strain relief. Not sure it really did anything, but I have driven it many times with no messages. I also called Richard at CP to ask him why he thought I got the SCL message. He thinks it might have been a momentary bad connection at the BCM. I also asked him why you should not do the brown wire mod. He said the brown wire mod is targeted specifically for the "pull key and wait..." message and you might not ever have the problem, but more importantly he said the brown wire mod has actually caused problems for a "hand full" of people. He said issues with the BCM. I didn't pry further than that. I figured I would probably be one of the handful if I do the brown wire mod. If at some point I start to get repeated pull key and wait, then I guess I will go ahead and do the mod.

Did you forget to remove the wire comb on the other side holding the brown wire down?

No, I removed that first.

It was just really stuck in there.

I drove it this evening after 7pm, sun still out, went and got gas, then to Walmart, then Papa John's pizza for a carry out.

Neighbor gave me a card from them saying 50% off through Labor Day, have not had them in years, no wonder they have 50% off, pizza box bottom was cold as I walked out of store, room temperature pizza 🍕 is just not that good.

Now maybe that was my fault, stopping to get gas, then Walmart for soda and dog food, before hitting pizza place.

Pizza Hut (my 2nd favorite behind a mom and pop place) and even what I would normally call the worst pizza choice Little Ceasers, keep pizzas in a warmer oven in the box, get it and go home it's still warm.

I now rate Papa John's (this pizza was called the works) as the new worst choice, lower than Littte Ceasers 5.00 pepperoni bargain pizza.

Anyways, the LMC5 was a success!

4 starts of the car on this gas, dogfood and soda, pizza carry out, and count start up from leaving the house.
