First Gear Pops Out of Gear at Traffic Light
Hi,
Today, I took my 2001 C5 Hatchback 6 speed out today, and while stopped at a traffic light, I put the transmission in first, and when the light turned green, when I released the clutch, I heard some grinding noise, then the shift lever popped out of gear. This has happened before, but have ignored it, but, at 75K miles on the odometer, is this normal, or does something need repair?

My '99 Vert with 147K on it had that problem occasionally when I did not get it all the way into gear. I changed the trans fluid and all issues went away and it slid into first much easier and I never have your issue any more.

Definitely not normal...know a good trans shop you can trust to look at it?

You may not be getting fully into 1st gear. It could simply be your input or something else could be contributing. Are you noticing any resistance to putting the tranny in 1st? One simple no cost thing to do is a shifter alignment to see if that helps.
