Default Camshaft recomendations 2001 LS1 A4

I was thinking of using the GM LS1 hot cam. How much HP will thi give me?

Otherwise, can someone recomend a good alternative. Car is a daily driver, A4. Needs to idle smooth and pass VA emissions.

Thanks,
BILL

My advice, do it once, do it right! Do some research and pick the one you really want. The hotcam will not be your best choice for an A4.

I would recommend the B1 cam or one of the Thunder Racing cams(224 114LSA is a good one). There are several guys making good #'s with these. I made 375rwhp in my M6 w/ no tuning using the B1 cam before I took it out. Try to pick a cam with a 114LSA to help idle out some by moving the peak up the rpm range.

Here is a link of someone who has good results w/ the TR cam >> http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=414217

You will also need a good set of springs, pushrods, retainers while you are in there.

Good luck!

Call Dave at Cartek, (908)317-4496. He helped me out with questions even before I was one of their customers.

Depends where you want the power. We did a buddies car with 02 Z06 cam and LS6 heads. It runs very well with bolt ons. I have a 224 on 112 and it chops a little and moved the power band UP it picks up around 3800 and pulls to a high 6800 or more. I am scared to take it up that high. You may want a smaller cam to make better power with the tight stock converter. I agree a 114 or more is better for idle and auto's. Let us know! :seeya

ThunderRacing .220/.553/114 is what I came up with after months of research. I am using it with stock 2002 Z06 heads.

Thanks Guys. I was considering the thunder racing cam also. Unfortunately, it will be more less cost effective because I will have to purchase springs, etc.

Not too big of a deal, but it may mean putting a converter on the chopping block. How does the cam perform with the stock converter?

I've been there and KNOW what your looking for.. :yesnod: After much research and talking with all the vendors and tuners I took advantage of Agostino Racing Engines Head and cam package. I'm running their agressive stage 1 heads and a Lunati 226/226/554/114 cam..Monster power for a A4!

Mind you, Now you need to get it to the ground which entails a higher stall converter and Drag radials..not to mention you will probably blow up the stock tranny after a very short while. The transmission was not designed for that kind of power..Check out my home page ..It details ALL my mods with pics and race videos ..:D

I also went with the B1 221/559/114 with good results, picked up 43 rwhp with the UDP. Go at least with a 114 LSA for the A4. I need a new dyno after so many mod upgrades.
