Default Test an EBCM? C1214 comes and goes

This is a 2003 coupe. If I pull the EbCM, can it be checked? Closest local service department says I need to bring the car in while it is in malfunction mode.

I don't know if it not being a constant issue means that it is not specific to a faulty EBCM (ie electrical connections, etc)

I talked to another C5 owner last weekend who had his replaced by a dealer. $3000 USD!!!!!! He was surprised when I said some people repair them or send them off to be repaired for about $150. I have always sent my stuff to ModuleMaster. I sent my first EBCM to them 10 years ago in another car. I gave that car to my son a few years ago and the EBCM has been flawless.

It all depends on the failure in the EBCM. If the failure isn't related to the C1214 relay they really have no way to repair the module.

The other thing that needs to be checked that a lot of people don't check when they get the C1214 code is why did the relay fail? If it is due to the motor in the BPMV drawing too much current the BPMV needs to be replaces as well and nobody fixes those. Just because the relay is replaced and the code goes away doesn't mean the system is working OK. The BPMV needs to be replaced if resistance of the pump motor windings to ground is less than infinite on the highest scale of the meter.
