Default Rear main seal leaking oil

Hello, I have a 97' C-5 corvette with 16,500 miles. What is the expected cost for this repair. Thanks

I was quoted $1000 for the labor. I already have the rear cover (with a seal).

Thanks for replying. I already had someone look at it. They said they retorqued the pan bolts. Still have the same issue, a few drops of engine oil on garage floor. Trying to find a good mechanic in the Redondo beach area.

it can also be the rear cover gasket... due to the amount of labor involved it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both regardless if one of them is not leaking... have you checked the oil pressure sender just to rule that out?

The rear cover with a rear main already in it is only $60 from amazon, up from $45 when I did this 2 years ago, It is a major project but can be done in the garage on jack stands. I have also heard $1000 to $1500 because of labor.

I thought the rear main seal was bad at 125,000 miles due to oil leaking from all over the bottom of the oil pan but it was just oil leaking from the PVC valve hoses. Oil traveled down from the front passenger side of the engine and coated the oil pan. The rubber valve holder and hoses can dry out and crack from heat over time, it's easy to check if any oil is under the PVC valve area.

American Heritage is over in Harbor City, they can do this for you. I had them do mine a couple of years ago. Was about $1000 to do the job.
