Competitive Driving Mode 97
I have a 1997 C5. Does the 97 have competitive driving mode. I hold down the traction control button and it will turn off. I can turn back on. However, when I hold down for extended time I just stays off and does not give me competitive mode. No codes are traction control issues at all. Any help is appreciated.

NO! The 97 does not have that option. You have to have the JL4 active handling option to be able to enter COMP Mode.

Competitive Driving mode turns Traction Control OFF but leaves Active Handling ON. Gen 1 Active Handling was an option interim '98-'00. Gen 2 Active Handling was standard '01-'04.
Since '97 doesn't have Active Handling, it doesn't have Competitive Driving mode. Pushing the button simply toggles Traction Control ON/OFF.
Note that the button is labeled "Traction Control". The button is labeled "Active Handling" for the later cars equipped with RPO-JL4.

Bill Curlee, When in Competitive driving mode is the electronic throttle dampened? It feels like it is dampened a bit when in the first mode of traction control off but that might be a perception. 2004
