Trans to extension housing leak question

Trans to extension housing leak question
'99 FRC M6. Leaking red transmission fluid between transmission and extension housing.
I understand there is no gasket between the transmission and the extension housing. GM used an anaerobic sealant to mate both surfaces.
Here's my question: Under normal conditions, is there supposed to be transmission fluid in the cavity between the transmission and extension housing? Or, is there a seal in the rear of my transmission that is leaking fluid into this cavity, then out between the mating surfaces? Is the extension housing supposed to have transmission fluid in it?
Asked another way, can I just reseal the mating surfaces between the transmission and extension housing while having my clutch done?
I know this topic has been covered ad nauseum. I've read several posts, but none have addressed my specific question.

On the MN6/MN12 trans,, the space between the differential and the trans has gear oil in it from the diff. It uses a very large O ring to seal the two. . The trans output shaft has a seal that seals the end of the extension housing/ output shaft. If the rear housing on the trans is leaking, just separate it and reseal it. I would put a new lip seal in the tail housing as a protective measure.

Are you sure it's trans fluid?
At any rate the trans extension housing has an inner and outer shaft seals. Inner for trans fluid, outer for the diff fluid. If leaking trans fluid the extension housing needs to be removed for inner seal replacement.

Under normal conditions, what fluid, if any, is between the green and red arrows in this picture? My car is leaking bright red trans fluid at the red arrow. Can I simply reseal with OEM GM RTV when changing my clutch? Or is there an inner seal causing the problem? I was under the impression the hunk of metal known as the extension housing between the arrows was filled with trans fluid.

YES!! That area contains/seals the ATF in the trans. If you have a leak at the GREEN arrow, it is normally diff lube (75/90W)

Many thanks Bill!
1. If I'm not mistaken, 5th, 6th and Reverse gears are located in the extension housing between the green and red arrows. Is that also correct?
2. Mine is definitely leaking red ATF fluid at the red arrow. Which doesn't necessarily indicate that an output shaft seal is leaking ATF into the extension housing since there's already ATF in the extension housing. Correct?

ALL the above is correct except 5th is inside the case. 6th and reverse are in the extension. Call me PM SENT!

When you have it apart, you will see that both seals will have worn the shaft down. Make sure you install the new seals install them a couple of mm's further into the extension housing so the new seals will ride on a fresh part of the output shaft.
