Can I use a sealant to replace this or do I have to get this custom order O-Ring?

Is that the O-ring for the seal plate on the diff?

I actually found on here in town so went and bought it, 9$ ao my problem has been solved. But the tech at the dealership actually told me that in a pinch the RTV would hold up just as good as the O-Ring, just be a little more messy and difficult to take it apart afterwards.

Actually, you can MAKE your o-ring. You just need that soft-rubber/silicone rod and superglue.

Sounds typical of the type of advice you would get from a dealer.

Permatex Ultra Grey. Haven t used an oil pan gasket in years. In a pinch, it would hold up.

The thing is, O-rings are designed to work in conjunction with some level of compression, either to the faces or the sides. With a form in place seal there isn't any compression. I imagine it works in some situations, and not in others.
