Default Oil Cooler +Thermostat kit for C5 Z06

Can anyone recommend an after market oil cooler with a thermostat for my 2002 Z06? Only street driving is to and from the track from April to October. Oil overheats after 15 minutes or so on track days.

THX,

JBN

I would forego the t-stat. Makes for a bunch of extra AN connections and is really not needed unless you live in a very cold climate and intend to street drive a bunch. I have always used Doug Rippie Motorsport's kit, but I am sure there are other options out there now. I know Ligenfelter makes a nice adapter block as well as improved racing. There may be others.

Thank you, Tool Hoarder. I live in Indiana and don't drive the car in the winter. I was just concerned with engine damage due to low oil temps.

We make an oil cooler adapter for the C5 with a built-in thermostat: http://www.improvedracing.com/oil-co...ter-p-369.html

We are also working on a complete kit for the C5, but it's still about 3 months out.

Unless your cooler is small, most vehicles will take a long time to get oil up to temp (or may never get up to temp) without a thermostat during casual street driving (highway driving, rain, cold, etc).

Well that's a trick new way to do it. When the bypass is open does some oil still flow through the cooler circuit?

Yes, a small amount, typically around 5%, continuously circulates through the cooler when cold. Just enough to warm up the cooler, prevent air bubbles, and keep the oil mixed and circulated.

That ImprovedRacing thermostatic adapter block is the best way to do it. Then just do ANs to a cooler and route the lines smart, and done. All in $400, cant beat that.

Link bookmarked. Thank you Improved!

No problem! Keep your eyes out for the complete kit coming soon if you don't need it right away.

Not yet. Unfortunately we had a few other things come up, and we are just starting to continue work on it again this week or possibly next week.

The improved adapter is great, and doesnt involve any extra AN connections. I just did the whole install on mine and it turned out great.

If you want a thermostat buy Improved Racing's adapter. Doug Rippie can sell the lines, bracket, and cooler. http://dougrippie.com/ call the parts line. I believe Rippie supplies -10 lines which you may have to specify with Improved
