Video - C5 Shifter Mod (how to shorten)
Guys,
I have driven a few C6's and I very much like the feel of the shorter shifter they have. I was thinking of buying a C6 or MGW shifter but decided to try this mod first. Here is how to shorten your C5 shifter for FREE.

I did basically the same thing when I got a new shift ****. I just used a dremel with cutoff wheels while leaving it installed. Makes a mess, but I knew that going in. I believe I took a hair over an inch off mine.

I can't say that I noticed any change in shifting effort. I will say that it feels much more precise. Between taking an inch off and the new kmob being threaded deeper, im at roughly an inch and a half total difference.

3/4 - no perceived difference in shifting effor (but my arms are huge - haha,,,)
I also did the Anti-venom mod a few years ago and that helps make the shifting feel easier as well.
I think it looks much better. I may do another 1/2 inch next time I have the interior apart.

When I did mine, I just got a die (9/16-18 if I remember correctly) and ran the threads all the way down to where it gets larger, left about an inch of threads and cut it off. I used a hurst ball and used the lock nut that came with it so no more demon key. been using like that for years with no complaints.

Unless you are going to rethread it and get rid of the factory ****, there's not much point, IMO. And when you do the thread work, leave the die on the shaft, so when you shorten it, the threads will get cleaned up as the die comes off.

Perfect project to kill a few hours on a social distancing weekend. I highly recommend this almost free mod.
