Default Running 335's on 18x11 rim

Can a 335 be mounted on an 11 inch rim? Has anyone done it? Does anyone have pictures?

I understand I wont get close to the desired 335 tire patch...but can it be done?

Thanks

I am positive that it can be done. I saw a vette at a local shop running 18x10.5 ZO6 wheels with a 335 mounted on it. It looked mean but the tire did bulge way out. The tire stuck out of the fender about an inch. If you get the right backspacing then maybe it won't stick out so bad.

There is a member who is running 325/30/18's on an 11inch rim and it doesnt seem like it lips over too much. It's too bad those pilot sport MXX3's aren't being made. That's interesting...A 335 on a Z06 rim. Anyone have pics?

Why use a 335....a 315/30/18 will fit perfectly and give you about the same patch area. A 335 needs a 13" wheel to get maximum patch area. The 30 series sidewall isn't tall enough for an 11" wheel.

There is limited brand choices with the 315"s, that's the downside to that tire size.

I have 335's on an 11.5 rim... that is the smallest rim you would want to run IMO. That entire setup (brand new rims and the used tires) will be for sale soon. :yesnod:

It's true that you will get close to the same tire patch but
1. The 315/30/18 is only offered by Pirelli and the tire wall will be flush with the rim lip as opposed to a 335 or 325 which will give the tire some lip to protect the rim from curbing
2. the 335 will be slightly taller than the 315.

I know the 335 is pushing it and a 325 would be best...but this is just for street application. I already have racing wheels and Hoosiers. I just want more beef in the back so I won't get sideways in 3rd. I think another thing that needs to be taken into consideration is the tread width. I read that my S02's are almost and inch wider than the Supercars in the 295 size as far as tread width is concerned (something like 11.3 compared to 10.6).

Plus tires are easier to come by in Viper OEM sizes
335/30/18
275/35/18

Vettrdster,
Are you refering to your CCW's? Do you have an offset that sicks out of the wheel well by an inch + or the CCW's that tuck a little better. I've seen some CCW's that look pretty bad as far as them sticking out a lot...then there is "Tito" who has 18x12 and they fit flush without tubing.

I'm in the air here on rim selection and any other explainations or opinions would be great. WHY wouldnt someone do a 335....will the tire give that much quicker in a turn...will the tire fall off. People run a 315 on 10.5 all the time.

No problem with a 335 on a 11" rim if you only are going in a strait line. I would for shure not push it on a winding road or road racing track.

The 335 would bulg out on a 11" rim giving you about the same contact path to the road as a 305 or 315 so why waste the money on a 335?

Need more traction? Tub and add a 12" or 12.5" wheel with a 335 or 345 tire, it's the only way to go if you want to have the full width of a 335 to the ground and drive safe.

Yeah they stick out a little bit but not bad. It beats tubing the car. My new set of Race wheels which will be used for the track only will stick out more than those.

I guess it comes down to a choice, either tub the car and install the 345's or choose a street tire that you can live with and get less traction.

There are some guys on here that seem like they know everything, but I can tell you that Steve (Vetterdstr) and I have run at the track...Steve has many more sessions than I got using 335 on 18X11.5 wheel. We got our information from the guy who builds only 3 piece race wheels, and who just finally released a one piece...look at the Motorolla cup cars and ..you don't see HRE's on there..you see CCW's..look at the C5r's they are using a 20 spoke mesh BBS...why??? Because they are the strongest design. John knows his poopie better than any advertising vendor/tuner on this board...I guess what I am trying to say is, "Call John if you want accurate non biased information". He still sells me Michelin MMX from Europe..I am not going to even say for how much. John even showed me a cheaper alternative to having a drag set up than buying his...He is one of the few dude. IMHO a 335 will crown on an 11" wheel..you would be better off with a smaller size...the minimum is 11.5" and like I said, we bump up the pressure on the track and mine and Steves tires evenly wore..so the proof for us is in the pudding and listening to somebody who knows.

335's fit fine on 11" wheels... when you use 17" wheels. The problem is when you want to use 18" wheels, which means you need to use 30 series tires to maintain a proper rolling diameter. This short a sidewall causes the tire bulge and rolling up of the outer edges of the contact patch. Use 335/35-17's on 17 x 11" wheels. Well within the suggested specs per the manufacturer, keeps the wide rubber on the ground.

I guess I wasn't clear. I would never run a street tire on a road racing track, I already have a set of wheels mounted with Hoosiers for that. This question is strictly about street tires and rims I will only run on the street. I don't play Dukes of Hazard in the big cities here so I'm not concerned about tire patch in a 140mph sweeping turn in San Francisco

I am reluctant to put a 335 on the 11 inch rim, so my question was whether it could be done and is it safe...I'm not much concerned with track performance since these wheels wont see the track. I also understand that CCW's are good for racing and you don't need to tub..but this is for the streets and I dont like that sticking out low-rider look for everyday driving.

O...and about the price....have you guys been on tire rack lately.
197 for 335/30/18 Pilot Sports while 315's are 340+
Common guys....Nobody out shops me  for that price Im picking up 6.
Hmmmm my 335 idea doesn't seem so bad anymore huh?

If you think it will work on your car then give it a shot. Let us know how it works out for you. :) 197 for 335's is a good price too.
