My 98 fuel pump carries 58 PSI. Small gage on the end of the rail. Car runs fine. Gets good milage.. When I shut the motor off, sometimes the gage will drop to 0.......sometimes it dont. Im not about to start overthinking this. If it aint broke....Dont F*** with it. 89K miles on the pump.....
No problem !!...instead of using a coolant pressure tester I'm sure the mechanic has a Mityvac which is a vacuum/pressure tester...mine on the pressure side goes up to 30 psi...all he would need to do is connect either a male or female 3/8" fuel line fitting to the Mityvac....I'm sure he has one laying around...now I've heard of other members plumbing in a seperate check valve in series with the fuel feed line instead of removing it...that could be an option instead of replacing the whole line...if the check valve is good I think the injector is your last component that may be faulty....he may even have the 3/8" inch shut off valve...that way he can confirm 100% it is an injector !!!....good luck !!
p.s. and oh BTW you did a great job so far...you could have EASILY handled it !!
With my mechanics racing background, I am fully confident in his ability to get things figured out.

I am the type of person that likes to get things back into like new condition. It shouldn't do what it's doing, so it will be fixed. I understand where you are coming from though as I work with farmers and their equipment on a daily basis.
Grew up in Illinois, I hear ya! These C5's are Super Freaks. If they are perfect.......it wont be for long. They will drive you nuts....or give ya an ulcer.
I have exactly the same issue and it’s actually getting slowly worse. Cranks are getting longer and longer when cold. Starts fine thereafter. Please let me know what your mechanic finds.

If you have a fuel pressure gauge I would check that first...if good pressure a failing Cam Sensor could be be something you can look at !!
Finally got it on the lift. Guy said he can blow air in both directions from the fuel filter line going to the right tank. He also can't hear the right tank pump power up. Gonna run some dead head tests in the morning, then check the voltage at the RH pump.
I think your mechanic should look at the C5 fuel system "description and operation" !!..there is NO electrical fuel pump in the R/H (passenger) fuel tank only the L/H...that is why he can't hear it !!!

So last night talking to him, he had not yet looked into anything in the right side. However, he did narrow my issue down to either the crossover feed line or the right tank all within a half hour. Of all the shops in my town, I trust these guys more than the dealerships. They don't just throw parts at vehicles until they are fixed. Everything goes through the process of elimination.

From my understanding, the check valve in the rear feed line is either plugged or shot. Whatever the issue is, I'm losing enough PSI for the car to start hard and it's now starting to stumble while driving. This fuel system is quite complicated to me.

The check valve is a “one way” check valve...keeps fuel in the fuel feed line between it and the injectors...how did your guy diagnose it as the check valve ??
