OK, I need new rotors. I plan to do some "light" racing this coming year. (autocross and some track) I have heard stories of cracks in cross drilled rotors. Any opinions or facts on which is best? This also a daily driver. Where can I get the best deal on the rotors? Thanks :chevy
Xtreme had a big sale on the Baer Eradispeed rotors that ended at midnight tonight...just bearly missed it. If you are interested in these you could probably give them a call to see if they can still fit you in. I just ordered mine the day before yesterday and man I can't wait to get them. These Eradispeeds are supposed to be slotted and cross drilled...to help on venting gasses away from the pads as well as keep the pads/rotors cooler...just what I heard...
If you plan on doing a few track events and are using stock calipers then stick with stock rotors definatly. The eradaspeeds are ok for the street and are for looks only. I saw a set cracked last time at Watking Glenn and the guy was not even pushing it :bb The slotted rotors that are out there are not any better than stock and cost twice as much. I say stick with stock and you will be happy. At $55 a rotor shipped how can you go wrong ;) :seeya
Like you, I hit a few autocross + drag events a year. The drilled and slotted formatted rotor was developed to provide a channel for the offgasses from the ORGANIC brake pads that every car had on them back in the 70's and 80's. With the carbon metallic and ceramic brake pads common on virtually every car on the road nowadays, the cross drilled and slotted rotors are a waste of $$. The new pads do not offgas (the old "brake fade syndrom").
I run the Raybestos ceramic pads ($160 for 4 wheels) from Pep Boys mostly because I don't have the visual mess of black brake dust to clean up every weekend. Instead, it's silver, blends in with my wheels and I can scrub off once a month. When autocrossing, I switch back to a set of "soft" metallic pads that I usually burn up after about 2 autocross weekends. But I do stop!
The Eradispeeds, Aimco and others are good for looks and seem to work okay for daily running around town and so forth. But why spend all that money for rotors when they do not enhance performance? Spending that $600 or $800 on some Z06 sway bars and a VBP 800# front bow spring would bring you a lot more bang for the $ when it comes to autocrossing.
Save your money. The stock vented rotors and PBR calipers are excellent for us weekend warriors on the autocross circuit. And, you'll have some beer money left over for war stories down at the local pub after the weekend is done.
Ditto. Stock is best. I use stock pads and rotors when autocrossing and PFC01 or Hawk Blues with stock rotors at driving events. If you are doing a lot of DE's rotors are a wear out item. The cheaper they are the better. All the other ones are for waxers.

I have a question for those of you running new non-stock rotors. Have you noticed any warping problems like those found on the stock rotors? I like the look of the drilled/slotted rotors but if they will warp like the stock vented rotors than I'd rather pur my money somewhere else and buy the stockers. I hate the stock warpage though :mad

 :chevy
Warped rotors are a myth. To avoid the problem that is called "warping", but really isn't, just avoid coming to a complete stop after hard braking.

Just my opinion. ;)
SAVE THE WAVE :seeya
Got to agree, I bought the baers 100% for looks, after I put the thin spoke wheels on I cant stand the way the stock rusty rotors look. That was my sole reason for buying them, kinda ricey but I've spent 700.00 on stupider things - at least the honda kids will be impressed
Just another opinion here.....I upgraded the brake pads all around and switched to a larger diameter drilled and slotted rotor and noticed the difference immediately on the street. I have pushed the stock set pretty hard and they didn't perform nearly as well as the new setup does. I do not autocross my car and I have been told by those that do, the drilled and slotted are not the way to go as they will crack if over heated. For the street, in the rain and some occasional snow and when pulling a 2,000 lb boat, they have been great for me. :D
