Default Transmission Fill Plug

This may be a silly question and already answered elsewhere but why wouldn’t you just use the fill plug hole on the standard transmission to re-fill the fluid? I looked at several tutorials on the web and a YouTube video and all of them said to fill the fluid through the sensor hole by removing the sensor. What am I missing?

I changed my fluid a few days ago and used the fill hole.

I believe the rationale was to fill from the top until it leaks out of the actual fill hole so that you get the full amount with a hand pump. Might just be the difficulty of getting the fill hose in the right place to get a full load. This is what I've seen on the forums anyway. I do fill from the sensor hole, but I have a strong interest in ensuring its totally filled, since my Vette is a dedicated race car.

I think your confusion comes from the fact that some models have a sensor plugging the fill hole, and some (like yours) don't have a sensor there.

Mine does have the sensor also on the passenger side. The FILL plug is on the driver's side.
Thanks

I have always filled through the fill hole because that is what it's there for.

Yes, some models z06 maybe? The temperature sensor is also a fill plug. It is in the same position.

On models like Z06 there are sensors on both sides. Fill plug for a Z06 (and maybe some other models?) IS a sensor.
