Default ALternator Wiring

I had some burned wiring close to my right exhaust manifold. Dropped the car off three weeks ago to have the wires repaired. The mechanic says the alternator isn't charging. The desk guy says they had it checked and it came back good. The mechanic and I checked continuity between the positive battery terminal and the heavy red wire on the alternator and it checked open which tells me the heavy red cable running between the starter and the alternator got burned also. The desk guy says I need to be patient because it might take three more weeks. Anybody know what the routing is for the three wires running from the starter to the alternator? I'm ready to do this myself.

Pins C and B go to the PCM and Pin D goes to the starter…all 3 don’t go to the starter.

Thanks, I checked out the "Alternator Design and Issues" sticky on this forum. Along with your schematic, I see the grey wire and another small red comes from the PCM. We were not getting power to the Alternator from the heavier Red wire. It looks like there is a fusible link on it. I don't have the car right now but I will check the fusible link on that wire. If the wire got shorted is the routing of it obvious or is it hidden in a harness? I'll be checking the starter switch next.

OK got a volt meter on the alternator plug. With the plug off the alternator we get 12 volts on Pin D (small red wire from the starter). When I plug it in to the alternator I get .1 volts. Is this normal? The local parts store checked the alternator and said it was good.

It should always be battery voltage.

Seems that the wire maybe be shorted to ground, as mentioned in previous post you should have the same voltage the battery has, I would also suggest checking the wires on the starter solenoid.
