Kind of a long shot but I’m curious if any of you may know where this bolt belongs.
It doesn’t seem to match any of the others I can find as it’s missing a few threads on the tip.
I’ve spent the last few months rebuilding a majority of the drive train on my car and have been pretty cautions about putting nuts and bolts back where they belong as I have gone along, but I moved my creeper last night and found this bolt sitting underneath it.
Some hardware has been replaced so it’s possible I meant to toss it and it got left behind, but I just figured I would ask around before I put it all back together.
I think it came from the bell housing area but honestly have no idea.
Car is an 02 z06.
Things I’ve done :
re-seal diff
rebuild torque tube
replace master and slave cylinder
replace rear main and rear engine cover
replace clutch/flywheel
rebuild trans
What diameter? If youre talking about the 1/8"-1/4" or so where theres no threads, most bolts in the engine bay are like that. What numbers are on the hex head? Like 8.8, 10.9, etc. These bolts are common all thru the engine bay. Can't remember what the pinch bolt on the A4 cars looks like, but if you've pulled the torquetube, you've loosened or removed the bolt. It probably is a 10.9 bolt, and probably an M8x1.25, or an M10x1.5. Check to see if you have that in the lock collar......
Saw a post the other day on the bolts attaching the diff to the trans, I would double check all are on and torqued to spec where possible. Before I was working on the cars so in depth myself, I paid to have 3.73s installed. The diff blew up a few months later, the nut that goes on the stud was never found.
Also do not use an impact on the 4 nuts that attach the cradles/subframes to the frame.
Being a part of 6 engine outs in 8 years (not the same car) paid off with identifying this one.
