Default Transmission fluid leak

Hey all. Just picked up this 2002 z06. 73k miles. Got it on my lift. Noticed Trans had a very small leak turned into smudge all over the Trans case. Cleaned it all off, changed the fluid, and now 1 day later it's got a noticeable leak! Hasn't been started even, let alone driven.

See photos.

Can someone give me the rundown how to fix this?

I don't need to drop the transmission do I?

I have a lift in my shop.

I'm thinking drop the exhaust, remove the torque tube, then ???

TIA!!

It appears to be an input shaft seal leak however you cannot be certain until the transmission is separated from the torque tube. In order to remove the torque tube, you have to drop the entire driveline (torque tube, transmission, & differential). You should review the procedure in the service manual before embarking on this project. I've done this without a lift (not easy but manageable), with a lift the job is much easier.

Thank you for the reply. Yikes. I do have the factory manuals, previous owner supplied them with the car. I did go through them briefly. I'll review them again.

I thought there would be some experts here that could give a general outline of the steps to do it, or confirm what was said above.

The subject matter experts are the individuals who wrote the service manual. You stated you have them, I suggest you read it.

As I stated above in my first response, I said I would go back and review the manuals. I suggest to read the thread more carefully.

Furthermore, the manuals DO NOT give general outlines for "transmission leak", which is what the forums are for. For less experienced ppl to ask general questions, looking for advice and guidance, neither of which you have contributed.

So far you have contributed nothing of value, I suggest you spend your time elsewhere.

Jack the car up front and back 2 ft pull out whole drivetrain from engine back the whole subframe with the drive train comes out then u can access trans seals by sperating from TT. There is a write up just goggle, Cajan man i think. Is this what ur looking for

It's either the input shaft leaking or the front plate leaking. Either one requires trans removal. You can get the plate off the front without scattering the whole transmission once it's out.

Thanks for the reply. im not sure, or an expert, but if it was the input shaft seal, i believe the leak would be coming from the joint forward of the leaking joint. either way, i have reviewed the info and the TT needs to come out, so the looks like the rear suspension cradle needs to be dropped. Good thing i have a lift. Not was i was hoping to do with my new old car! im thinking i will rebuild the TT while it's out, hopefully car does NOT need a new clutch

@TacoSauced Curious if you had any updates on this and/or tried for the repair yet? Bought my 98 a couple weeks ago, go it in the air and am noticing the same thing. Cleaned it all off and have just a small red dot sitting in the same location but nothing has ever hit the floor. Guy before me stated slave cylinder was leaking so he dropped everything to replace that and new clutch/flywheel while he was in there but appeared he didn't think to change any seals at the same time. Dreading starting this journey......
