Default Blinkers Not Blinking

2 days ago as I was driving home I suddenly lost both blinkers. After a search, it seems this isn't terribly uncommon. Cycling the hazard switch did nothing for me, I think I'll try drilling the thing and squirting some contact cleaner in there and cycling some more. I found some pages from a repair manual that had partial schematics, but they didn't show the path for power end to end. I want to trace the failure with a multimeter instead of loading the parts cannon if cleaning the switch does nothing. Does anyone have some good schematics for the blinkers?

Have you checked the fuse box to see if you have a blown fuse?

Kind of, didn't see any inside marked for the turn signals specifically. Hazards work though. Was gonna start with the schematic if possible, wife's high beams were out in her Envoy and it ended up being a fuse that I forgot to reinstall when I repaired a conductor inside the fuse box. We're it not for the schematic I found, I would have never known. It was marked for something completely unrelated and the one partial schematic I saw for the C5 indicated this would be no different. I'll need to verify whether or not any other lights are out on this too when I get home.

There should be a fuse schematic on the inside of the fuse box cover.

There is, and at least on the one under the passenger floor board none are marked for turn signals. I can check under the hood, but not holding my breath.

Looks like a no for the one under the hood too.

I'll keep searching for a decent schematic.

I believe that is just the fuse location and description label and not an actual wiring schematic

According to the Owners Manual fuse #15 is for the Hazard / Turn Signals. But you say the Hazard lights are working.....
Fuse #8 is for Stoplamp / Hazard Flashers.

Here's a schematic but it's incomplete.

This does a **** poor job of showing me power into the blinker stalk, power through the thing, and how the hazard switch is tied into it all.

It's your call but I would check fuse #15 in the passenger side fuse box before I did anything else....

I could swear I came back in after my last round with this. My blinker fuse was in fact blown in the passenger floorboard, but so was the approach fuse. I replaced both and continued driving the car. It blew the blinker fuse again, but this time just the blinker fuse. So I'll start investigating as if the problem only exist on the blinker fuse circuit.

So I FINALLY found a usable schematic of the blinkers, they sure have a lot going on.

The power comes out of the fuse, runs into the hazard switch as that's where the flasher lives, gets spit into the switch on the column, then goes back through the DRL relays before finally making its way to the blinker bulbs themselves up front. The rears are similar, but they don't go through the DRL relays. Seeing how my approach and blinker fuses were blown the last time, it stands to reason that my problem is between the DRL relays and the front bulbs. Now I just wait and see which side I'm using when it pops again to narrow it down further. Or shoot both sides to ground before then.

Edit: Minor correction to the above. I can see now that the flasher is providing a ground, not a power source. One look at the headlight circuit clears that up.

Edit 2: Correction to the correction, those fronts are dual filament units sharing 1 ground. That or it's 2 separate bulbs sharing a ground. So that is power flowing through the switches as I originally thought. I found a better version of the same schematic that you can actually read so I've posted that now but for some reason it won't upload the one that correctly shows flow through the hazard and MF switch.

I just noticed i have an issue with my left hand signal blinking faster than normal. Everything is fine up front however the rear tail lamps only the farthest left rear light blinks when the turn signal is on, also when the hazard lights are on its the same thing again. When i turn the actual headlights on all of the lights work. I have extra bulbs but thats apparently not the issue...

I was hoping to stay of the mindset that the headlights were separate. Which they are according to the schematic. But the kicker with mine is that the 2 times it has popped the headlights were on.

For schematics, my local library has Haynes or equivalent online.

Updating this thread. Using my most recently posted schematic I decided to go after the front as I'd popped both the approach fuse under the hood and the hazard/turn signal fuse near the BCM again. The thing they share is the singular path from the relay to the bulb socket. I yanked the DRL relays, front bulbs, and blown fuses and found a short to ground between the left DRL relay output and the DRL/blinker socket. Tomorrow I'll see if I can't narrow down the location better.

I started by narrowing the scope of the possible location.

So the fuse box is out of the equation. Got under it and took another peek, that's not looking good.

I bet it's pinched in front of the oil cooler.

It actually ended up being pinched on the other side. Peeled back the tape and there's our smoking gun.

If you look at my oil cooler install thread from 2012, a keen eye will notice I didn't route this harness there.

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...#&gid=1&pid=10

Yet ANOTHER mistake from the body shop. That and all the hardware that was missing in the front mounts of the oil cooler. Ridiculous the amount of money you have to give them to half-*** your ride then you get to spend half a day chasing after the problem.
