Default Removing AC

What would happen if I just removed the AC belt and just left everything in place? I have never used the AC to cool interior. I know that it can help with the defrost just seems silly to spin the compressor and never use it. This is a 02 vert. Thanks.

There's a clutch for the compressor. It allows just the pulley to spin if A/C compressor isn't called for. Assuming the pulley spins OK, you wouldn't be gaining anything measurable. Replacing that belt is a pain.

If you're A/C is operable, I'd leave the belt in place. It's good for the compressor to run every once in a while. The compressor really helps with the defroster since the A/C system cools/dries the air then it gets heated as needed. Hot humid air on a cold windshield causes sweat on the inside of the windshield.

This^^^

When the AC is off the compressor pulley is in free spin with no load on the engine. There isn’t anything to be gained by removing the belt.

The a/c turns on whenever you are in defrost mode. That is what keeps your windows from fogging on rainy days.

If you never use the a/c, the only things that are turning are the compressor pulley and the belt tensioner pulley. That is a very small parasitic power loss. If you cut or remove the belt, you will eliminate that small power loss.

You will experience window fogging on rainy days and on cool humid days.
