Default Intake and Throttle Body

I've heard its a good idea to replace the intake on my 99 with a LS6 intake, and to install a ported throttle body. I found a LS6 intake by SLP for around $380. As for throttle bodies, I found a GM ported one (I believe it was 80mm), and also BBK offers one.

Anyone have any recommendations on these or other manufacturers? Is the upgrade worth it?

Lastly, are this something that are easy to do? I am not a full blown mechanic, but can handle a wrench.

I have installed a Z06 airbox w K&N, SLP MAF, and a PowerDuct and wanted to finish the intake work with these mods.

Thanks again.

The LS6 Intake is a good idea as it will help get you some more HP. The 80mm throttle body on the other hand is a bad idea. Those are only good on a highly modified engine. You should just have your stock unit Ported and Polished.
Good luck

I think putting on an LS6 intake manifold and larger throttle body are good ideas for an hp increase. Got to ls1howto.com for instructions on manifold removal/install. Good luck

Thanks. Where does one get the TB ported/polished? Can I polish it myself?

Thanks again. This place is great.

You will notice a difference with the LS-6 intake installed. I agree with the other members about the 80mm TB. To my knowledge, the stock MAF and TB flows up to 500hp. I, like yourself, have the SLP MAF and I am satisfied with the flow straighteners they have added(the waffle pattern) and it's performance. SLP's LS-6 intake is an excellent buy. I purchased the GM version for about $100.00 more. It has a longer warranty, but it is the same intake as the SLP. SLP does some of the performance work for GM on certain versions of particular cars. Good luck.

Thanks. I'll go with the LS6 intake then. Anyone know where I can get my TB ported and polished? Also, do I need to reprogram my computer for the intake, powerduct, SLP MAF and Z06 airbox w K&N Filter? Or is the stock program fine until major mods?

I'm a newbie and trying to follow all of the posts associated with this.

Thanks C5ers.

In my opinion, take care of intake and exhaust issues first. They will compliment your present additions.

As far as programming, you have to decide how much more you plan to do to your powerplant. If it's just bolt-ons, HypertechIII, Predator, etc. If you plan to go deeper into the process, a local tuning shop or LS-1 Edit.

I am sure some of the other members with more knowledge than I will be glad to accomodate you with more info. Good luck!

After changing intakes and exhaust, with compliment mods, then consider programming. A good rule of thumb: bolt-ons only.... Hypertech III, Predator, etc. If you plan to go deeper into the powerplant....tuning shop, LS-1 Edit.
How much do you want to spend, and what do you want your tuning to accomplish. So many choices. There are several threads on this forum about this subject that would help you make a decision. Good luck!

Just my .02 here.Stock MAF and TB will work just fine.On my '00 coupe I still have the stock Maf(screen removed) and TB,the car for some reason just likes those better than aftermarket. With the mods you have you really do not need to reprogram but if you really feel you need to,do LS1edit or the predator,HPIII is a waste of money that could be put to better use elsewhere.By doing LS1 edit find a shop that will do any future changes for free so when you do a H/C or a SC,etc. you will just need to do a lil tweaking :D
