Cross post from my thread in general. Tried running new AC Delco LS3 coils on my car after some other work, car wouldn't run. Multiple misfires, back firing, etc. Swapped back to the LS1 coils, no issue.
Someone with experience, not speculation...does the PCM need a tune to use LS3 coils? The LS3 coils looked great but I need the car to run, no look pretty.
Well is the pin out between your LS1 coil and the LS3 coil the same ??...top pic is the LS1 and bottom is the LS3 that is on my 2008 C6...looks different to me...12 volt, ignition control, low reference and ground...car won't run very well if they don't match up.

I bought an adapter harness from Katech Engineering. Not sure if that could be an issue as well.

I had this happen once before.
Your wiring harness are flipped.
You are essentially trying to run the engine as if it were an old school distributor v8 with the distributor 180 out.
For a thousand years I never thought it was possible and that coil harness placement just was what it was on an LS until I did it myself.
There is a specific color trigger wire to each coil and if you flip the harnesses BAM you are 180 out.
I figure that out and then put the harnesses as they are supposed to be with no other changes and bam, car started right up.
If it is beyond that I don't know where else to look at this time.
Also, not disputing Ron's knowledge as he is right about all the LS coils using a different dwell table, I will say that my C5 has had LS3 coils on it for years all the way up to almost 700whp and still using the LS1 dwell tables.

Ha! I prob never asked what coils you had!
When I tuned an LS3 I built for a buddy using a P01 (I put a 24x reluctor in it) I changed the tables up front. Never tested both ways.
I have been using LS3 coils for a couple years now as I wanted to change valve covers as well. I asked my tuner before I swapped if I needed to account for the dwell in the tune and he said no. I have had zero issues.
I will say that Mr Black is right. I have accidently swapped the coil harness and it wont run and back fires. The purple wire (one color is different in each plug) always goes to the LEFT. If youre standing on the passenger side its #8, if youre on the driver side its #1.
