The exhaust on a stok ls1 isn't bad, but why settle for less? So I've been reading and searching around the forum and local aftermarket retail stores and basically (with a few complaints) I have been told that Borla (the stinger) is the best exhaust system for your c5 ls1. Is there anything else that compares or does anyone suggest with good reason that I should get anything else?
-I know if you go to flowmaster.com you can hear their systems, does anyone know where I could hear the borla stinger system
I heard quite a few systems at a Forum-announced Dyno day. You can hear everything at idle and WOT. IMO, the Stingers sounded best - low rumble at idle and exotic roar at WOT. Check out the "Upcoming Events and Regional Discussion" section for upcoming events or Dyno days. It was a great experience for me.
Stingers are the best of the "loud" aftermarket hands down.. but if you want a good rumble but dont have the cops after you then try the Z06 exhaust with the random highflow cats and x-pipe setup.. i love it!!! screams at WOT and very "stock" at idle.. :D
I have 4" Quad tip GHL's and Love them. I think you can't go wrong with any of the systems mentioned here. Do a search on the forum on the Stingers, GHL PRT's. That was one of the biggest deciding factors for me.
Many of "old" types like the sophisticated sound of the Corsa's. Two words you'll never hear in the same sentence together (unless it's in a post like this) is Corsa and Resonance.
After carefully looking for the coolest, loudest exhausts, initially I was leaning w/ the XR-1. But after comparing both sounds over the net, I think I might go w/ the Loudmouths.

Re: Borla vs. everything else (Tony and His C5)
I don't think that there is anyone that will argue that every exhaust sounds different, and it's all preference. Get together with your local Vette group (if you have one), listen to what everyone else has, and then make a decision. I went with the Stingers for 3 reasons. I have had them on several different vehicles in the past, I love the looks and they sound great.
With that said, there's a dozen other people that can say that about their choice of exhaust. Just go look at them all.
I like the SlP's ...louder n ell. But, I dont drive my car every day.
On the road they get a little noisy but ya gotta take the good with the bad.
Here's another option for you to consider:
I currently have headers, no cats, stock Ti cat back.
In the next week or so will be putting on dual electric cutouts.
Sorry guys; left out one detail...I don't want another reason for a cop to pull me and my torch red coupe over so not anything too crazy ya know? Somethin' a little more than stock but nothing too much, and that's what Borla seems to offer. Cut-outs are definately sweet though, especially if you wanna blow someone away :yesnod:
The stock system exhausts a stock engine pretty well; The main reasons to get an aftermarket exhaust are sound and looks. Everyone has their favorites, but lets offer a few explicit reasons behind those decisions. The best advice above was to visit a local dyno-day. You can hear a wide variety of modified setups and see what appeals most to your eyes.
Rockman, do you have any other exhausting mods or engine changes in mind? What do you plan to do with your car? Race, travel, everything? With heads & cam, no cats, & better headers, the flow-through designs like Borla & GHL are LOUD and fun, but they're kinda annoying (IMHO) on long trips. Do an archived search on exhaust resonance. The best way to tell if you can live comfortably with a loud exhaust is a ride-along.
Corsa's ARE popular and civilized, but they putt-putt a pretty weak idle sound. FWIW, I'm looking to replace my Corsa system with Borla stingers. I'm getting bored with being civil.
