2003 LS1 pulling timing -- LS1 Edit -- any down sides??
Hello,
I have a brand new 2003 LS1 convertible, and I recently installed the Halltech TRAP filter system. I live in Dallas and it is getting very hot here lately. I had the car on the dyno, and it was very obvious that the car was pulling timing back quite a bit -- I think the techs said 6 degrees or something.
Anyway, the suggestion was to install a lower temperature thermostat, and do some 'tuning' with LS1 Edit. Are there any down sides to mucking with the car's computer?? What exactly does this software do and whatr gets changed?? I understand that the car is set up from the factory to run nicely anywhere in the US across a broad range of climates (and could need 'tuning' for my specific climate), but something makes me nervous about dorking around with the car's brain when it doesn't even have 10000 miles on it yet... Any input??

I have the Halltech sidewinder on my 02 and I'm getting all kinds of detonation. They tell me I need the edit but my 00 didn't for some reason, now a bit confused as you are. Hope someone can enlighten us?

The dyno can be very misleading. What was the temperature outside the time your car was on the dyno? Was there a huge fan blowing air into the front of the car? What other mods have you done to your car?

The air temp was near 100 degrees. The water temp according to my guage was 235 degrees!! There was a huge fan blowing air into the front of the car. The Halltech TRAP is the only mod I have done as of yet.
