Tires: 285/40/18 or 295/35/18 with 275/35/18 in front?
I know this is an old old old old topic, but I can't remember what has been said before (getting old I guess).
I want to go with 275s in front, but I think I've read that 295/35s may be be too short to go with 275s, and may cause Traction control issues. Should I be concerned? Does anyone run 285/40s?

I am not sure what rims size you have up-front, but I assume it is 18x9.5
If this is the case i recommend you go with a 265/35/18 up-front and a 295/35/18 in the rear. I just did it and it looks great and there are no issues.
Use the tire calc website below and you will see the differences.

You have no issues because you are running 19's in the rear, so you still have a 1" difference to avoid traction control issues. He is looking for advice for an 18" rim all around, front/rear.

What about stock wagon wheels on a '99 FRC? 18x9.5 rear wheels.
OEM is 275/40/18. Are there wider sizes that still look good and are safe to use? 285/35s? 295/45s?

Have 265/35/18 frt & 295/35/18 Toyo T1S Proxes on 9.5 & 10.5. No problems and like the Toyo's. If overall diameter of rear to front is greater than 96% there should be no traction control or ABS problems.Less & potential probs when cornering.

If overall diameter of rear to front is greater than 96% there should be no traction control or ABS problems.
A 275/35/18 is almost exactly the same dia as the stock 17" front tire at 25.7". The 295/35/18 is a little shorter than stock at 26.2" (stock is 26.7"). This is right at the 1/2" stagger point, or 98%....and while it should be ok, I'm not gonna guarantee it. :D
265/35/18 or a 285/30/18 would be better choices for the front. Both are shorter in height to better match the slightly shorter 295 rear.
You have no issues because you are running 19's in the rear, so you still have a 1" difference to avoid traction control issues. He is looking for advice for an 18" rim all around, front/rear.

Yea, I just looked up the Toyo tire height #s:
275/35/18 -- 25.5
295/35/18 -- 26.1
285/40/18 -- 27.0
The 275s up front are key for me, so I don't think I'll chance it with 295s in the rear. I think I'll go with the 285/40s in the rear -- I think they will fill out the wheel well area pretty good too...
