Default Tires: 285/40/18 or 295/35/18 with 275/35/18 in front?

I know this is an old old old old topic, but I can't remember what has been said before (getting old I guess).

I want to go with 275s in front, but I think I've read that 295/35s may be be too short to go with 275s, and may cause Traction control issues. Should I be concerned? Does anyone run 285/40s?

I am not sure what rims size you have up-front, but I assume it is 18x9.5
If this is the case i recommend you go with a 265/35/18 up-front and a 295/35/18 in the rear. I just did it and it looks great and there are no issues.
Use the tire calc website below and you will see the differences.

Wow. Do those fit on 18x9.5 Z06 wheels in front? I want to run 295/35 in the rear, but I don't want 265s in front. I just don't want any TC problems.

Yes it would fit on a 9.5 not perfect but it would work.

You have no issues because you are running 19's in the rear, so you still have a 1" difference to avoid traction control issues. He is looking for advice for an 18" rim all around, front/rear.

Think I'm gonna go with Toyo Proxes 275/35/18 in front and 285/40/18 in the rear on 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 wheels.

What about stock wagon wheels on a '99 FRC? 18x9.5 rear wheels.

OEM is 275/40/18. Are there wider sizes that still look good and are safe to use? 285/35s? 295/45s?

Have 265/35/18 frt & 295/35/18 Toyo T1S Proxes on 9.5 & 10.5. No problems and like the Toyo's. If overall diameter of rear to front is greater than 96% there should be no traction control or ABS problems.Less & potential probs when cornering.

Thanks for the 96% info -- I'm gonna look up the tire height of the 275s vs the 295s (I really would like to get the bigger 275s up front)

If overall diameter of rear to front is greater than 96% there should be no traction control or ABS problems.
Actually, you want the stock 96% or less. 100% would be the same tire front and rear and this is known to cause problems. The 96% figure represnts about a 1" stagger in height. Most people report no problems until they get less than 1/2" stagger.
A 275/35/18 is almost exactly the same dia as the stock 17" front tire at 25.7". The 295/35/18 is a little shorter than stock at 26.2" (stock is 26.7"). This is right at the 1/2" stagger point, or 98%....and while it should be ok, I'm not gonna guarantee it. :D

265/35/18 or a 285/30/18 would be better choices for the front. Both are shorter in height to better match the slightly shorter 295 rear.

You have no issues because you are running 19's in the rear, so you still have a 1" difference to avoid traction control issues. He is looking for advice for an 18" rim all around, front/rear.
Misinformation. The 285/30/18 is 25" tall. The 295/35/18 is 26.2" tall. That is a 1.2" stagger and will work fine. Reid is running 295/30/19's on the rear which is 26" tall, and a 1" stagger. The rim size makes no difference, it's the overall tire diameter. Yes, the 18's in this case are taller than the 19's.

Also,
Tire height calculators are handy tools for general purpose use, but you should always look at the actual specs of any given tire....you will find they don't always conform to the nominal dimensions. The tirerack.com website is a great place to view actual tire dimensions and specs.

Yea, I just looked up the Toyo tire height #s:

275/35/18 -- 25.5
295/35/18 -- 26.1
285/40/18 -- 27.0

The 275s up front are key for me, so I don't think I'll chance it with 295s in the rear. I think I'll go with the 285/40s in the rear -- I think they will fill out the wheel well area pretty good too...
