I just wired mine up this last weekend following Brian's lead. I found the tach (white) wire by using a safety pin to make momentary contact and watching the Raptor activity (set it at 1500 rpm for test purposes). I connected my red (power lead) up to the pink wire in that same bundle which is the 12V on/start ignition voltage to the instrument cluster. If you use a different 12V source that is always hot as some have suggested, you can't change your Raptor settings because it ignores switch setting changes until a power cycle. At least that's how mine worked. I picked up ground at the grounding block just inside the left kick panel. All clean and works great. Be sure to use some tiewraps to tidy things up before you close it all up. I can't stand rattles Thanks Brian for all the help.
John

The easy way to test which on you need is by using a regular test light connected to ground. With the key in the run posistion. Probe each wire. You will find when you probe the tach wire it will pulse the tach when you probe it. If its one of the other white wire you will see dash indicator lights turn on..one being the skip shift, I forgot the other.

Phil
I tried to use a test light with the ignition on, engine off. 1 lie lit the text light , the others did not. No movement on the dash. Then I started the engine and checked voltage. 1 had 13, 1 had zero, 1 had like 5-6 v. Is the last one the tach?

I have an observation and a question:

Observation: One of the three white wires is more towards the outside of the sheaf than the others. It looks to me like that causes the discoloration in that wire. It may be that is always the tach wire since all of these harnesses are the same (mostly).

Question: What do you ground your probe to in the cockpit?

Other 2 wires? You just tap into the white tach wire. You leave the other 2 wires alone.

Flyin' Brian, thanks for taking the time to help all of us here on the forum in regards to making it so much easier, finding the tach wire for installing our
shift lights!

I found your thread a few years ago when doing the shift light install.

yakisoba, in regards to finding a ground inside the cockpit.
There are places (steel) to ground to, right where the tach wire lives.
Thanks again Flyin' Brian.

Here is where I ended up installing my shift light.
Pretty much unnoticable with the dust cover on.

Use one of these from Radio Shack.. IT just squeezes over the white wire and then piggy backs the Green wire.. The picture shows a Black Wire being tapped and the Red Wire being added.. But you get the point.. NO Cutting or Soldering involved.

fwiw, it is really easy to pick from the pcm. You might be hunting for a while to find the correct white wire and not find it (my experience).

I found it easily on my 03 Z, by following Fly-n -Brian's pictured write up.
