Does the SHIFT light in the Heads Up Display tell you when to shift optimally for drag racing or is it there as a safety to tell you that you're just about to hit the limiter?
I know the LS1 hits it's peak power BEFORE the rev limiter so you really should be shifting before the red line.
Is that light good for racing?
Just wondering if anyone uses it at the track.
I will find out soon on my own, just wanting to hear some views from some forum folks.
The only time I ever saw mine was when I was near redline. I have since put in a blue LED Raptor in the top of the driver's A-pillar. The rotary switches allow you to change the activation rpm easily. It takes me about 15 seconds to change mine and pop it back into the bracket.
What shift light? I've hit the rev limiter a few times and never seen a shift light. Mine's a 99 vintage HUD. Perhaps it wasn't on my version of the HUD?

Same here. I've tried to check the HUD shift light against the tach at the time but it's pretty hard to do...but it seems pretty close to redline. I have a Raptor too, though it's red, and it's great. I never have to look at either the HUD or tach anymore and have never hit the rev limiter since having the light.
