FINALLY!! Andy gets a motor for himself!!! And it's a wild one.
I blew the motor in my car just about a year ago. I had the dealer install a new 03 LS6 under warranty last November. I immediately took it out and sold it with the intention of building a forged motor. Well, we all know how busy I've been with other peoples cars, that mine has been continually put on the back burner. I have built 8 forged 348 motors and sold them all before they ever saw my engine bay.
Then my intention was to put in my 427 C5R block as soon as I had time. I built a 409 aluminum sleeved block and was going to sell it to fund the 427 project but decided to put the 409 in instead. The 409 is a block that I had sleeved by Nelson Racing Engines and ,although it looks bullet proof, is untested. I got to thinking that if I sold this one and something happened, I would feel awful. Not to mention a very unhappy customer. So a reversal of sorts. I am going to put the 409 in my car and flog it to death to make sure the sleeving process is sound. I have an awsome set of 6 liter Stage III heads that flowed 328 @.600, a 233-244 cam and a HUGE Vortech blower that I have to make a bracket and pulley system to work with my single air to air intercooler system that I use with my Procharger system. I hope to make 15# boost. Siemens 57# injectors and a couple or 3 fuel pumps should be able to fuel it. It will definately be one of a kind.
In the year my car has been up on jackstands, I've stolen, and sold, the engine, brakes, shocks, sway bars, clutch, fuel pump, blower , injectors, wheels, tires, radiator, AC condensor and lines, about a hundred nuts and bolts and who knows what else. Actually two sets of wheels and tires. I bought a set just to roll the car from the old shop to the new and sold them too!
It's also been sitting outside, uncovered and unwashed for a year. It should be illegal to treat a new Z06 like this. I figure that I've made over $8000 in car payments and who knows how much in insurance payments since the car even had a motor in it. How stupid is that?
The first thing people notice about my shop is the ratty looking Z06 out back and THEN comment on how nice and clean my shop is. Maybe the ratty looking Z06 should be as nice as the shop. It's crazy that I build all these ridiculously fast Corvettes and I drive a Chevy V6 pickup truck. I should have a car that shows what I am capable of. What can I do now? Take them for a ride in my S-10 pickup and tell them " your car will be ten times faster than this" It's about time I got this thing together.
I have to finish Roy's blown 427 ( it's almost done, Roy) and then I'm going I'm going to take a few days and work on my OWN car. I'm determined to have it on the road before my next car payment!
If the 409 sleeved block holds up under high boost, I'll do some more.

Andy , your like the Tailor that walks around with holes in his pants :lolg: .
You eat, sleep and breath your customers cars all day and night..So its no surprise that the last thing you want to do when you have a few hours to yourself is work on your own car .
I can't wait to see what your Blown 409 puts down !
They always say that good things come to those who wait

You honestly made me laugh out loud with this post. Only a true enthusiast AND a person dedicated to support his customers would be in such a situation - hats off to you. Look forward to following the results of your project - and hope you don't find yourself again with a 'ratty' corvette out back of your shop as your own personal (non-truck) ride.

Andy, the "heads and valvetrain" portion of your website is not working properly. It directs to the suprechargers page.
